McGivney After School Program
Academics First!
Each day members are required to spend a minimum of 45 minutes either doing homework, reading or engaged in academic pursuits. Our trained tutors work with members in small groups or individually to provide help in all academic areas. Our learning center materials meet the Board of Education standards.
Stay Active!
Our Focus is on promoting healthy eating habits and lifestlyes. Daily physical
recreation activities get kids moving in order to develop gross motor skills and aerobic stamina. Organized games and teamwork promote cooperation, communication and FUN. Healthy snacks are provided daily.
Get Technical!
Daily computer classes help our members learn keyboarding skills and navigate the internet by exploring appropriate educational websites. Supervised by our commputer instructor, students have the opportunity and also learn to do research for homework assignments
Be Creative!
Using a variety of media, members are encouraged to explore and create. Projects range from simple to more complex and focus on teaching them new skills and allowing members to explore their creative horizons.
Friday-Fun Day!
Each Friday afternoon, members in the afterschool program participate in a variety of enrichment activities that enhance their social, intellectual, and physical skills. These include, different sports, dance, cooking, arts, media, sewing, knitting, games, and more.
Youth Council
Youth Council is an organized grpups of members from the After School Program elected by their peers. Youth Council is the heart of youth involvment by giving members the opportunity to take responsibility, promote pride in the center, develop character, provide leadership, and take an active role in decision making. We value youth voice, and the Youth Council has led the way to great ideas and positive changes in the Center.
Schools Out!
Members in the afterschool program can enjoy the winter and spring recess at McGivney with field trips, special events, and fun daily activities. School vacation day hours are 9am-3pm.
There is a fee per week for non-members.
Family Involvment Series
We are committed to giving our members' families ongoing support and opportunities to learn, explore and have fun together. We've hosted Family Math Bingo, Literacy Night, Family Feud, and other events that promote learning.
